Reaching Beyond
CSUN President
ome questions have the power to capture our imaginations across generations. Are we alone in the universe? How can technology help people live fuller, more independent lives? How can art transform the places where we learn, gather and belong?
In this issue of CSUN Magazine, we celebrate the curiosity, creativity and ingenuity that inspire our Matador community to ask big questions — and pursue answers that can change how we understand our world and our place within it.
You’ll meet a constellation of CSUN researchers working to answer one of humanity’s most profound questions: Is there life beyond Earth? Their work reflects something fundamental about our university — a willingness to look beyond what we know, explore new possibilities and invite our students into the process of discovery.
That same spirit of innovation is helping improve lives here on Earth. CSUN engineering faculty and students are advancing technologies that could transform prosthetic and wearable robotic arms. From a patent-pending foot controller to AI-assisted design and virtual reality training, Matadors are bringing engineering expertise and human-centered thinking together to forge a path toward greater independence and a better quality of life.
And discovery at CSUN isn’t confined to our laboratories and classrooms. Across our beautiful campus, remarkable works of public art invite us to stop, look closer and see our surroundings in new ways. In this issue, we celebrate some of these artistic gems — intriguing and inspiring sculptures that enrich the CSUN experience for students, alumni, visitors and patrons alike.
Science, engineering and art may take us in different directions, but each begins with curiosity and the courage to imagine something we haven’t seen before. That spirit of exploration is at the heart of CSUN and the extraordinary people who make this university a place of boundless possibility.
Thank you for being part of our Matador community and for supporting us as we continue to explore, create and shape what comes next.
With gratitude,
President
